Choosing a therapist can feel daunting — and that’s completely normal. Questions like “Will I feel comfortable with them?”, “Should I choose online or face-to-face?”, and “How do I know they’re the right fit?” often come up when starting this journey. It’s important to take the time to explore these thoughts, as the connection you have with your therapist is a vital part of successful counselling.
To help you make an informed choice, I offer a free, no-obligation consultation. This gives you the opportunity to “test the waters” and see how it feels to speak with me. If you have questions that aren’t answered on my website, please don’t hesitate to reach out — I’ll respond within 24 hours.
When booking your first session, it’s helpful to choose a day and time that fits well into your routine — ideally when you can give yourself a little space for self-care afterwards. If you’re opting for online therapy, consider a time when you’ll have privacy and won’t be interrupted.
Once you've selected your preferred time, I’ll confirm your booking or offer an alternative if it’s unavailable. I’ll then send over a counselling agreement for you to read, sign, and return along with your session payment. And that’s it — you're all set!
Ahead of your first session, I’ll send you a Google Calendar invite. This will include either the address for in-person sessions or a secure video link if you're attending online.
The first session is a gentle introduction — a chance for us to get to know each other, explore what’s brought you to counselling, and begin to understand the challenges you're facing. There’s absolutely no pressure to talk about anything you’re not ready to share. We will always move at your pace, and you remain in control of the session.
At the end of our time together, we’ll reflect on how the session felt for you and discuss whether you’d like to continue. Hopefully, by then, you’ll feel more relaxed and have a clearer idea of what you want to gain from your counselling journey.
If there’s anything I haven’t covered or you’d like further clarification, please feel free to get in touch — I’d be happy to help.
